Safety & Quality

NITC places great emphasis on observing the highest Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.

Safety is paramount in all operations worldwide. The company fully complies with the ISM Code (International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention) and was the first company in the Middle East to do so, two years before it was mandatory.

It was also a pioneer in adopting the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facilities Security Code), implementing Vessel Security Plans and attaining its first International Ship Security Certificate as early as 2003.

On the Quality front NITC has embraced the voluntary ISO 9001:2000, with documentation handled by a dedicated (AVECS) software programme certificated by DNV and Lloyd’s Register.

It also takes part in the voluntary Tanker Management and Self Assessment programme, where it aims to comply with the highest TMSA level (4).

In fact the company is the only non-oil major to have been accepted as a member of OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) on account of the quality of its operations.

All company vessels are modern, double-hulled and built by a leading international shipyard. They incorporate extra steel in areas subject to high stress, higher coating specifications to minimise corrosion, and top-of-the-range equipment and machinery to reduce maintenance and help protect the environment.
